Functions as an intellectual property ("IP") paralegal in the company's IP group, working directly with patent attorneys, other internal divisions and outside counsel. Primary job responsibilities include U.S. prosecution docket management and patent litigation support. As to prosecution, the paralegal will serve as a liaison between internal and external counsel and be responsible for docketing of all prosecution dates. A basic understanding of U.S. patent prosecution and relevant experience is required. The paralegal will also obtain and prepare for review patent file histories and non-patent literature. Regarding patent litigation, the candidate needs to have a working knowledge of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and be familiar with responding to paper and electronic discovery. Such knowledge is needed to issue document retention notices and coordinate the production of responsive documents and data to external vendors and counsel. The paralegal will also perform internal due diligence to ensure the company's compliance with discovery requests received in litigation, including working directly other departments such as Corporate Legal, Regulatory Affairs and Research & Development. Additional responsibilities include litigation docket management, as well as research with PACER, Westlaw, Lexis and/or Courtlink. Familiarity with FDA regulations and the Orange Book is desired but not required.QualificationsBS / BA and four yearsof professional relatedexperience or Paralegal certificateand 6 years of professional relatedexperience.Advanced certificate(s)in area of Patent Law strongly preferred.
