Patent Liaison III- Assay RD - (Job Number: 0801323) DescriptionOrtho-Clinical Diagnostics, a Johnson & Johnson company, is a leading provider of high value diagnostic products and services for the global health care community. We are seeking an individual to work in the position of Patent Liaison within our Assay R&D group. The candidate would be responsible for generating responses to office actions, providing support of Patent Service Requests required by product development teams and providing support of Freedom to Operate Requests required by product development teams. The candidate would also be responsible for organizing and chairing monthly patent committee meetings, working with inventors to prepare invention disclosures, applications, and required searches and defining best practices for documentation and mechanisms for protecting IP on outsourced development programs. The candidate will update OCD patent portfolio database including "commercial significance" and linkage between patents and specific OCD products, review recommendations on current OCD policies for filing including foreign filing and work proactively with the R&D leadership team to identify and execute IP strategy. The candidate will also maintain ongoing surveillance program of external / competitive IP development. The patent liaison should have a technical background in biological and chemical sciences and experience in patent application, maintenance, search tools, and intellectual property (IP) strategy. Candidates must have good written and verbal communication skills and be able to interface both with the scientific staff and patent attorneys. The successful candidate must have a minimum of a Masters preferably in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or a related field of study and an additional 1 or more years in the laboratory following graduation. A Ph.D. is preferred. Proficiency with molecular biology, chemistry, algorithms, bio-infomatics is preferred. An understanding of patent law is an asset. Experience searching nucleic acid and protein homology databases is preferred. Experience searching patent databases is also an asset. Having passed the U.S. Patent Office's Patent Agent Examination would be an asset. The candidate must have strong oral and written communication skills and be proficient in MS Office Suite.
