Pharmaceutical Raw Materials Buyer

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Raw Material Buyer is responsible for purchasing raw materials used for production utilizing approved specifications and vendors.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.  Reviews and tracks approved purchase requests and determines availability of supply for requested items.

2.  Places orders with current approved vendors on new and repeat purchases ensuring continuity of on-time delivery.

3.  Forecasts, plans and purchases inventories for future production honoring the required lead times of the vendor.

4.  Executes purchase order entry in Macola production software system and distribution of related paperwork.

5.  Provides costing analysis of quotes using approved vendors.

6.  Interviews, selects and develops suppliers, assesses vendor capabilities, develops alternative sources; evaluates supplier performance, price and delivery terms and establishes good business rapport.

7.  Secures procurement of quotations from vendors to determine lowest responsible bidder and recommends same for existing, new and potential projects.  Performs spreadsheet costing analysis as needed.

8. Interviews current and new prospective vendors.  Develops long-term relationships with suppliers.

9. Interfaces closely with receiving clerk, accounting/finance, and operations personnel to guarantee timely and accurate deliveries and resolve vendor issues.

10. Assures prompt return of rejected, over-shipped and/or overstocked material.

11. Assists in warehouse inventories.

12. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

1.  Education and/or Experience:

·  Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related area, or equivalent education, training and experience is required.

·  Minimum of two years experience in the pharmaceutical, nutritional and/or health and beauty care field is required.

·  Experience in purchasing of raw materials in similar industry.

 

2.  Skill Requirements:

·  Must be experienced with modern purchasing practices, JIT, cost savings programs, and capable of handling multi-tasks.

·  Must be a team player and possess the ability to interface with others.

·  Must be proficient in computer skills: word processing (Word or WordPerfect and spreadsheet (Excel or Lotus). 

·  Must possess initiative and self motivation required to carry out special projects.

·  Must possess tenacity and good follow through.

·  Must be attentive to detail and accountable, without supervision, for ensuring that orders are delivered on time to meet production dates.

·  Must possess good phone mannerism, positive attitude, and effective communication skills.

·  Must be adept at troubleshooting and problem solving.
