Knowledge Services is currently seeking an experienced Pharmacy Technician for a large long term care pharmacy client in the Decatur, IL area:

Position Summary

Under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician I prepares, counts, labels, packages, and dispenses pharmaceuticals for Pharmacists approval.  The pharmacy technician interacts with the other departments in the pharmacy in an effort to provide accurately dispensed prescriptions on a scheduled basis according to predetermined delivery times.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1.  Under a pharmacists supervision, fill prescription orders.

2.  Reorders or notifies purchasing staff or appropriate personnel of medication and/or supply needs through proper use of reorder log. Monitors back-order requests.

3.  Prepare simple drug compounds after the Pharmacist has verified the calculations.

4.  Responsible for filling bulk products, blister packs, putting away the order, and staging deliveries.

5.  Perform expiration dating review of all medications on a scheduled basis or at each re-stocking period and provide the pharmacist with a list of expired medications.

6.  Replaces emergency boxes as requested.

7.  Maintain all related compounding records, prescription logs, and any other related files as determined by the pharmacy management.

8.  Remove and sort by work function the delivery bags or totes and equipment from return area inside pharmacy. Ensure proper dispensation of returned medication items for proper outlet.

9.  Courteously assists all customers, internal and external. 

10.  Maintain neat, clean and organized work place at all times to avoid contamination.

11.  All other duties as assigned.

 

Education, Qualifications & Skills

 

Minimum 18 years of age in states that require certification.

Previous pharmacy technician experience.

Previous pharmacy or a health care setting experience.

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Excellent customer service skills.

Working knowledge of pharmacy computer systems.

Ability to perform accurately and efficiently when imputing information.

Basic math and analytical skills.

  Possess and obtain knowledge of drug names - generic and trade.  Ability to recognize subtle differences in names and numbers.
