Postdoctoral Research Fellow –Computation and Engineering Design

 

 

Position Objective and Responsibilities:

·  Perform research and development in the area of heat and mass transfer in packed bed involving chemical reactions.

·  Develop computational (CFD) tools to predict temperature and species concentrations in porous media.

·  Design and develop experimental setups and procedure and conduct experiments to collect experimental data to validate the CFD tool.

·  Perform fundamental research through design, development and conduct of experiments aiming at material transport.

·  Plan and develop experimental techniques to measure vapor and liquid transport at macro and micro scales and conduct actual experiments using the available resources.

·  Help in conceiving and planning for fundamental research in the area of transport of particulate and gaseous substances.

·  Perform computer aided design (CAD) tasks to build the experimental instruments.

·  Analyze the experimental results and provide theoretical and computational supports and explanations.

·  Collaborate with other research scientists and engineers within the group, across Research and Technology, and external research partners.

·  Document and communicate research results, conclusions and recommendations through lab note book, internal reports and presentation as well as external presentations and publications.

 

Degree Requirements:

Ph.D. (doctoral degree from an accredited university) in one of the following or similar fields:

• Mechanical and/or electromechanical engineering.

• Related disciplines with a strong background in transport mechanisms and instrument design.

 

Other Qualifications:

In addition to having earned a Ph.D. in a preferred area of expertise, ideal candidates also possess:

 

·   Strong background in CFD and CAD and familiarity with ANSYS/FLUENT and Autodesk and Autodesk Inventor. 

·  Strong background in experimental design and techniques

·  A desire to interact with scientists and experts across a wide spectrum of subjects.

·  A desire to work with engineers and technicians inside and outside of the group.

·  Demonstrated skills to solve problems, strong interpersonal skill, and excellent written and oral communication skills to participate in meetings and produce documentations.

·  Strong written and verbal communication skills to participate in meetings and support required documentation, proficiency in the English language.

·  A strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a cross-functional team.

·  Ability to present results in public forums and publish novel findings in peer reviewed journals.
