ETHICON, Inc. develops and markets products for surgery; wound management and advanced wound care treatment. Products are marketed through three divisions: ETHICON Products for precise wound closure and tissue repair; ETHICON Women's Health & Urology for minimally invasive women's health procedures; and Johnson & Johnson Wound Management for homeostasis and advanced wound care. ETHICON, a member of Johnson and Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for an Engineer in R&D, Product Performance Evaluation Group, to support the Somerville, NJ facility. The engineer in Product Performance Evaluation Group partners with multiple cross-functional product development teams to design, develop, validate, and execute test methods for verifying the design and performance stability of medical devices from the above divisions. The primary responsibilities include, self-directed work with project teams to provide product characterization strategies aimed at supporting discovery efforts, new product development, and regulatory submissions. Design fixtures and innovative test methods to evaluate product physical attributes and functional performance. Develop test protocols, carry out lab experiments (including design of equipment/fixtures as needed), analyze test results (statistically if needed), and prepare technical completion reports. Attend relevant surgeries (both human and animal) to extract user needs and product requirements. Enhance the core competence and capacity of product characterization through innovation and collaboration with other technical groups. The candidate will be responsible for leading and improving within the PE group along with leading initiatives and mentoring & developing engineers. This Principal level role will be responsible for taking a lead position on projects to ensure proper design and execution. BS in Biomedical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with 15 years of experience in a laboratory environment (academic or professional) pertaining to New Product Development is required or an MS/ PhD plus 10 years of experience is required. Experience in the Medical Device industry is preferred. Familiarity with computer-controlled materials testing equipment, such as Instron, MTS, or equivalent is required. Experience with testing of mechanical/electrical medical devices is preferred. Excellent record-keeping and written communication skills is preferred. Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional team environment including external vendors and customers is preferred. Ability to manage responsibilities for multiple project teams is required, project management skill is preferred. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technical skills is preferred. Knowledge of biology, gross anatomy, and biological tissue properties are preferred. Test Method Development experience in Medical Devices is preferred. Apply Now
