PRODUCT APPLICATION SPECIALIST – GENETIC ANALYSIS

 

RESPONSIBILITIESDrives Genetic Analysis applications and product sales through customer success and satisfaction. Evaluates, develops and supports protocols/workflows, methods and customer support materials for Genetic Analysis-based applications (SNP genotyping, AFLP, Sequencing, SNaPshot, microsatellites, mutation scanning, etc) and DNA sequencing chemistry by capillary electrophoresis. Serves as liaison between Product Management, R&D, Validation and Verification, Marketing and both field applications and technical support groups. Acts as escalation point for Field-based support. Creates and tests strategies for effective product line demonstrations. Serves as representative for the (Business Unit/Product) applications. Gathers information about technical trends to support development and selling strategies for current and future products. Provides technical marketing material such as product application notes, user guides; generate data to show proof claims and support application notes on promotional material. Will perform some bench work in support of products. Provides materials, training and in-house subject matter expertise. Develops documentation and support for Field-based support to answer customer application and data troubleshooting questions. Develops materials and trains support staff on products. Provides telephone support to field-based support staff. Fields some technical calls that come into product management Develops and communicates methodologies for completing customer demonstrations. Understands customer needs, has an understanding of sequencing chemistry and capillary electrophoresis technology, a thorough knowledge of the demonstration goals and enables the field to articulate and achieve those goals. Test site support for products in development. Voice of the customer during product development meetings, protocol refinement and improvement as necessary. Able to write the product protocol document. At a specification level, ensures integrity and competitiveness of new and current product specifications. Provides proactive communication (written and oral) about products during commercialization, including collaborating or developing promotional literature at product launch in alignment with Product Management and Marketing. Provides the first step in the quality feedback process by evaluating and managing the troubleshooting process with customers. Will be a resource for tech support and provide a higher level of support than tech support by having a thorough knowledge of the product. Evaluates customer product performance issues (interacts with the customer, obtains sample and project files and evaluates internally, etc.) and communicates internally on this evaluation to quality team meetings to determine defect and future feature requests.Conducts in-house and fieldwork on customer samples in highly competitive situations.10-20% worldwide travel required. Travel includes customer visits, attendance at conferences, and meeting with regional sales, support and marketing teams.

 

REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have experience with use of capillary electrophoresis-based genetic analyzers and analysis software for DNA sequencing. Candidate must have used PCR and understand sequencing chemistry. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. Requires knowledge and skills normally acquired through the successful completion of a advanced degree (Ph.D./ M.S.) in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biology or related degree. Requires a minimum of 5 years of previous laboratory experience, preferably in a Core, Genotyping, Molecular Diagnostic or Molecular Biology Lab. Experience which includes presenting and documenting technical materials such as posters, seminars and technical papers is highly desirable. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Proficient with data analysis software and experience with genetic information data repositories is a plus.
