Production Associate I - Screening Specialist
Position Objective:Work in a team based environment to manufacture clinical and commercial products that are scientific in nature for use in the life sciences industry. Essential Functions:Carry out standard operating procedures involving basic laboratory techniques, calculations, materials measurement, operation of laboratory equipment and record keeping necessary to manufacture products, requiring scientific understanding of what they are working on. Record keeping includes but is not limited to Batch Data Records, notebooks, customer reports and work order documents. Make detailed observations and analyze data to ensure within operating parameters. Advise manager of factors that may affect quality, accuracy and usefulness of product. Suggest options / ideas for corrective actions. Complete production and quality analysis of reagents, components and finished products in accordance with the Production Schedule.Maintain equipment, product inventories and related records as assigned. Note variances on manufacturing documents; audit and evaluate process documents and propose revisions.Assist in the identification of and implement manufacturing procedures intended to optimize existing processes and ensure achievement of regulatory requirements. Procedures will typically target improvements in product yield and reduced manufacturing time and cost. May research new methods or steps in a process. Complete, distribute and file records; prepare ad hoc reports as requested.Demonstrate good work ethic by following Manufacturing Core Values: F.O.R.C.E. (Fun, Ownership, Respect, Continuous Improvement and Empowerment).May perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.Nature and Scope: This position largely interacts with equivalent levels of personnel in the manufacturing area. Good oral and written communication skills are required to identify problems and implement solutions in a team environment. Effectiveness in this role requires a functional knowledge of Invitrogen’s manufacturing process and Standard Operating Procedures and the ability to see opportunities for improved effectiveness. The job encounters work situations of moderate scope and complexity and identifiable factors. Works on problems where analysis of situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors. Incumbent exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine action. The incumbent normally receives general instructions on routine work and detailed instruction on new assignments. This is an entry-level position.Education:Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other related discipline, or the equivalent knowledge and experience.Experience: Requires 0- 2 years experience in the application of Molecular Biology laboratory techniques in a manufacturing environment or research laboratory. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of basic laboratory techniques, equipment and materials required. Demonstrated ability to carry out written scientific production instructions required. Experience assessing current processes and techniques and implementing procedural improvements preferred. Good problem solving skills necessary. Working knowledge of manufacturing related computer software preferred.Contacts:Has contact with equivalent levels of company employees and external vendors.Working Conditions:Works in both a lab environment and manufacturing facility with specialized equipment. Employees will be required to operate automated and semi-automated equipment. May on a continuous basis walk, bend and lift up to 40 lbs.. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. May intermittently sit at desk for a long period of time to answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Occasional local travel may be required.
