Project Manager, Lab Safety and Training

The Analytical Services Laboratory in Lionville has an immediate opportunity for a Project Manager, Lab Safety and Training.  The Project Manager, Lab Safety and Training will manage lab Health and Safety programs in the Analytical Laboratories and will work in close collaboration with lab managers, site safety group, and external consultants.  The Project Manager, Lab Safety and Training will perform training for new employees and oversee the overall lab training program. In addition, this individual will develop health and safety procedures, training procedures, and appropriate policies. 

 

Responsibilities:

 Assume the Chemical Hygiene Officer and Training Coordinator position responsibilities:

·  Work with appropriate employees to develop and implement chemical hygiene policies and practices; monitor procurement, use and disposal of chemicals used in the lab; maintain appropriate health and safety audits: maintain current knowledge of OSHA regulations pertaining to lab operations; continuously improve the Chemical Hygiene Plan.

·  Train new employees on minimum training requirements for laboratory and administrative functions.  Oversee the overall lab training program.Provide laboratory health and safety training for analytical laboratory employees as outlined in the Chemical Hygiene Plan and provide OSHA required training for lab.Conduct a formal laboratory health and safety Audit on an annual basis and coordinate routine health and safety walk-through inspections.Work with lab managers and supervisors to ensure the continuous improvement and implementation of required written health and safety policies and procedures relating to the laboratories including:

·  Chemical Hygiene Plan, Hazard Communication, Bloodborne Pathogen – Exposure Control Plan, Personal Protective Equipment, Respiratory Protection Program, Potent Compound Safety Guidelines and Handling Practices, Hood Usage Procedures, Spill Cleanup, Waste DisposalCoordinate accident and incident investigations for laboratory related illness/injuries, incidents (near misses), and employee exposures.Represent lab in the Lionville site safety, training, and Lean committees.  Coordinate and lead the lab safety committee and the lab spill team.Maintain the chemical order database and ensure MSDS’s are current for all incoming chemicalsReview new procedures, equipment, and chemicals to ensure that adequate safeguards, policies and practices are developed and implemented.  Ensure that adequate procedures for environmental monitoring are in place.Review MSDS, Occupational Health Categorization, and client information for drug products, and ensure that proper procedures are developed and implemented for safe handling. Conduct training for Potent Compound handling and testingCoordinate waste removal and transportation with a contracted waste vendor; maintain current training/certification in EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations as they relate to hazardous wasteSupport Ohio lab site as needed to assure consistent safety standards, training and capabilities at both sites.Other duties as assigned.

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

BS in Chemistry or related field.  At least three years of experience in a cGMP environment. Working experience as chemical hygiene officer or lab safety coordinator.  Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques.  Knowledgeable in OSHA regulations and MSDS interpretations. Experience in handling hazardous spills. Good communication skills and ability to work in a diverse group is a must. RCRA experience, experience with RCRA regulations, and working in a pharmaceutical testing lab is a plus.
