SGX Pharmaceuticals is an innovative San Diego-based biotechnology company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of novel, targeted therapeutics directed at addressing unmet medical needs in oncology.  

 

We are seeking a motivated, independent, and creative scientist to join our Protein Biochemistry team. The team is responsible for the purification and characterization of a diverse portfolio of proteins which includes many challenging therapeutic targets as well as proteins derived from the high-throughput structural genomics initiative PSI2 and other collaborations.

 

Position details:

 

·  Work independently and enthusiastically to develop methods for the purification of complex eukaryotic proteins. This includes gathering insight and expertise from the scientific literature and applying it to the optimization of protein yield and purity for crystallization experiments.

·  May also respond to purification requests from the assay and crystallization groups using established protocols

·  Interact daily with crystallization, mass spec, fermentation, and assay groups

·  Provide creative and intelligent solutions to diverse scientific problems through interaction and discussion with team members as well as members of other groups

·  Maintain meticulous records of scientific experiments through LIMS database 

 

Requirements:

 

·  Bachelor’s Degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or related discipline and 5+ years of experience

·  Or Master’s Degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or related discipline and 2+ years of experience

·  Or Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or related discipline and 0-2 years postdoctoral experience

·  Extensive experience in the area of protein purification including all standard purification methods, i.e., affinity, IEX, SEC, HIC, etc.

·  Additional experience in assay development, medicinal chemistry, or structural biology will be considered favorably
