Both individual contributions and team successes are critical on the path to scientific and medical breakthroughs.Position Title: R&D Associate II/ Associate Scientist I/II Department Name: Process Cell Culture Location: Gaithersburg, MD Job ID Number: 00417Position Summary:Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others): The candidate will be an active member and team player in developing production cell lines for therapeutic antibodies or proteins using mammalian expression systems (NSO and CHO). Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, cell culture adaptation, sub-cloning of cells for isolation and selection of stable high recombinant antibody (or protein)-expressing clones in serum- free and animal proteins (or component) free media; maintenance and expansion of mammalian cell lines using aseptic technique in 96-well plates, T-flask, shake and spinner flasks ; preparation of well characterized and tested cell banks; performing titer and stability assay of cell cultures; maintaining lab and production areas in compliance to GLP standards; providing technical support for upstream process in the manufacturing of non-GMP and GMP monoclonal antibodies; maintaining knowledge of current cell culture literatures and detailed and accurate records of scientific and production activities; maintaining documentation and tracking cell line history; characterization and inventory of cell banks and managing cell bank database; preparation storage, packing and shipping of cell lines and cell culture samples to outside vendors for testing and characterization, monitoring lab equipment and maintaining a clean working environment for routine cell culture operations, cryo-preservation of cell lines and production, generating and reviewing SOPs and batch records, assisting in other areas of cell cultures and in additional tasks as needed, such as running bioreactors. .Requirements/Qualifications:Education: Bachelor or Master of Science in cell biology, microbiology, biological sciences, biochemical/ molecular cell biology, or biochemical engineering or related disciplines Experience: 4 or more years (for MS candidate) and 6 or more years ( for BS candidate) experiences in cell culture process or development, or stable cell line generation is needed for Associate Scientist 1 and further experience is needed for Associate Scientist 2 Candidates. For Research Associate II level, 0-2 years experience after MS, 2-4 years after BS in the relevant field is expected.Special Skills/Abilities: Candidates with the following experience / skills are preferred: Excellent problem solving, organizational, and documentation skills with a strong focus on details and results, and excellent communication skills are required. Good competence for working and excellent quantitative,technical writing and oral presentation skills are essential. Computer skills, including database and MS office, are required. GLP /GMP experience a plus, development experience and advance cell biology techniques required. Experience with Microscope, ELISA, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, FACS, immunohistochemistry, HPLC, Basic biochemical /molecular techniques desirable. Experience using clonepix or other highthroughput methods for cloning highly desirableJob Complexity: Must be able to work in the lab for multiple hours in the lab and the job involves pipetting and other repetitious operations. Cell culture activities require periodic weekend work. Candidates must be flexible in time management.Supervision: No supervisory role is immediately anticipated.
