RESEARCH SPECIALIST

University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine Pathology and Laboratory,  Center for Neurodegenaterive Disease Research (CNDR)

Reference # 080424616

A leader in medicine for more than 230 years, The University of Pennsylvania opened its School of Medicine in 1765. Since its founding days, Penn has expanded medical frontiers by creating some of the nation's earliest programs including Dermatology, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology and Radiology. We currently are the only Delaware Valley program to offer transplantation of five major organs, further demonstrating our commitment to scientific discovery and patient care.

The Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research (CNDR) is a leading research center dedicated to improving the understanding of neurodegenerative diseases and finding therapeutic treatments. The center provides a stimulating research environment in which teamwork, enthusiasm and a strong work ethic are highly valued traits.

 Duties:

The Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research (CNDR) within the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a research scientist with prior experience in the characterization of monoclonal antibodies and the development of Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbant Assays (ELISAs). The position requires an individual with a high degree of scientific independence that can readily design, troubleshoot and implement ELISAs for the measurement of biomarkers from a variety of neurodegenerative diseases. This includes prior experience in ELISA development and the subsequent standardization of ELISAs such that they meet industry standards of robustness and reproducibility. The candidate will also be expected to plan, conduct and interpret a variety of additional biochemical studies, including but not limited to experiments focused on the measurement of cellular metabolites or proteins through the utilization of immunoblotting, fluorescence-based detection methods, or chemiluminescent-based detection methods. In addition to a high level of scientific expertise, the preferred candidate must also be adept with data analysis, including the use of standard graphing and statistical software. Finally, the candidate should have strong written and verbal communication skills.

 Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will possess a M.S. degree in the biological sciences with at least 5 - 7 years of experience in the pharmaceutical sector in which a primary research activity was the development and utilization of ELISAs; or equivalent. Highly qualified candidates with comparable experience in an academic setting will also be considered. This position is contingent upon funding. Background check:   Penn will conduct an appropriate background check upon the acceptance of an offer for this position. Negative findings will be properly communicated to the applicant to warrant ample opportunity to ensure that Penn has the correct information. Certain information may result in Penn rescinding an offer of employment.

As a University of Pennsylvania employee, the successful candidate will receive a salary commensurate with experience and a generous benefits package.

For more information about working at Penn and to apply for this position, please submit resumes online at the University of Pennsylvania’s Human Resources website:
