RESEARCH TECHNICIAN POSITION

IN DIABETES AND OBESITY RESEARCH

(Laboratory: Franck Mauvais-Jarvis, M.D., Ph.D.)

 

We are currently looking for a self-motivated college graduate with background in the biological sciences who wants to improve his/her research experience before going to graduate school. Our laboratory is investigating the pathogenic mechanisms and therapeutic perspectives for diabetes and obesity using transgenic/knockout mouse models.This is a full-time position as a Research Technician and the availability is May 2008. Our laboratory provides excellent training in mouse physiology and the ability to be actively involved in experiments and publications. The atmosphere is very good. Two year commitment requested. Technical assistance in research projects and laboratory organization includes:

 

Essential functions and duties

- Mouse husbandry (breeding, tailing, weaning),

- Mouse genotyping

- PCR, and gel electrophoresis

- Anesthesia and minor surgery in mice

- Blood sampling

- Experiment of physiology (glucose tolerance test, insulin tolerance tests)

- Analysis of protein expression by western blotting

- Tissue culture

- Collect, compile and analyzes data.

- Documents results of experiments.

- Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.

- Oversee the maintenance of lab equipment and environment

- Clean equipment and work area.

- prepare laboratory media & solutions.



Minimum Education and Job Experience: Bachelor's degree in a basic science or equivalent education and minimum of one year of wet laboratory experience in the United States. Salary will be determined based on experience.
