Research Associate – High Throughput Biology

Makoto Life Sciences is seeking an enthusiastic and enterprising Research Associate to support Makoto’s efforts to determine the molecular targets of anti-cancer agents.  In this position within the High Throughput Biology Group, the candidate will play an important role in developing and executing a range of assays that monitor compound affects on cell signaling pathways.  Projects are diverse and include high throughput screens as well as cellular and biochemical assays to dissect signaling pathways.  The candidate should be skilled in mammalian cell culture and will participate in adapting assays to an automated platform and performing large scale experiments.  In the dynamic and fast-paced environment at Makoto, this research associate will gain broad exposure to cancer drug discovery while contributing to the development of novel technologies for target identification.   

Responsibilities:


• Assist in the development of new cell-based assays

• Assist in large scale experiments to identify novel lead compounds

·    Perform assays to profile the effects of small molecules on a variety of signaling pathways

• Use cell biology and biochemistry techniques to assess key signaling proteins and their post-translational modifications
• Prepare technical reports, summaries, and protocols





Qualifications:


• BA in Biology with 2+ years or MA in Biology with 1+ year of laboratory experience (industry experience preferred)

• Experience with mammalian cell culture required

• Experience with plate-based assays (96-well or higher density) is preferred

• Experience in using cell-based assays to characterize effects of small molecules is preferred
• Previous experience with automation is a plus

• Must have excellent communication and organizational skills
