Research & Development Associate I/II
Responsibility: Design and execute experiments for process development, optimization, scale-up, technology transfer, and lab-scale validation studies in collaboration with others. Normally receives general or minimum instructions on routine work and specific or general instructions on new assignments.Description: Makes detailed observations, analyzes data, interprets results and exercises appropriate technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments with minimal supervision or independently. Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses with supervisor or with minimal supervision. Investigates, creates, and develops new methods and technologies for project advancement with training and minimal supervision. Maintains high level of technical expertise through familiarity with scientific literature. Works on technical problems of moderate to diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within defined or generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Tracks processes developed for clinical manufacturing for removal of process-related and product-related impurities and other measures of step performance, with supervision. Develops methods for characterization of processes, protein products, and impurities. Demonstrate that processes are scientifically rigorous and robust. Presents data in group meetings, project team meetings and in one-on-one situations. Assists in other activities as required.Maintain accurate records of all experiments, data, equipment calibration, equipment logs, and maintenance as necessary. Carry out all laboratory operations in a safe and effective manner. Maintain clean and orderly laboratory areas.Work effectively with Analytical Biochemistry, Cell Culture, Manufacturing Sciences, QA, QC, and Regulatory to facilitate scale-up, optimization, validation and technology transfer. Requirements: B.S./B.A. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, or related field Proficiency in protein purification, including chromatography and filtration, is desired. Experience and skill in protein refolding is a plus. Experience in HPLC, gel electrophoresis, cell culture, large-scale protein purification, validation, technology transfer, and GLP/GMP a plus, but not required. Good communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to thrive in an interdisciplinary team environment.
