Research Laboratory Technician
RESEARCH LAB TECHNICIAN
Clinical Research Management, Inc. (“CRM)” is a government contractor specializing in infectious disease research in the US and abroad. CRM provides GxP services, research personnel, and support services, contributing to the development of vaccines, drugs, and devices, to help prevent, diagnose, and treat human disease. CRM has an immediate need for a Research Lab Technician in Silver Spring, MD.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist the principal investigators and members of the research team under the direction of the STEP M research coordinator to develop effective vaccines for group B meningococcal disease.
2. Participate in the construction of genetically modified vaccine strains of N. meningitidis and use to prepare candidate vaccines.
3. Assist in the development of mutant bactericidal test strains as outlined in approved research proposals.
4. Characterize candidate vaccines for antigenicity, safety, stability, and purity.
5. Analyze the immune response of animals and humans to vaccination and natural infections to identify antigens that induce protective, cross-reactive antibodies.
6. Assist as needed in the preclinical and clinical testing of candidate vaccines.
7. Keep accurate and complete records of research done in accordance with applicable standards.
8. Develop written protocols and research proposals for discussion and approval by the project leader and the steering committee.
9. Submit reports and data summaries as requested, and prepare research results for presentation and publication in the scientific literature.
10. Comply with occupational health and safety standards and other applicable regulations and guidelines.
11. Attend seminars, scientific conferences, and meetings of the meningococcal research group and the Integrated Research Team.
12. Provide assistance to CRM Headquarters as needed on proposal writing projects and provide assistance with all job-related progress reports/technical reports.
13. Maintain a safe workplace ensuring that he/she is aware of and observes appropriate safety and occupational health rules and regulations. Employee is required to attend safety training relative to his/her position and report any infractions of safety procedures to the facility Safety Officer.
14. Perform light duties and other related duties as required and assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
1. Bachelors degree in microbiology, molecular biology or related biomedical field required.
2. Based on previous work experience, the candidate must have demonstrated scientific integrity, the ability to work together with other scientists as part of a research team, and the ability to be productive in the research environment.
3. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: knowledge of applicable highly complex scientific procedures and techniques relating to position.
4. Physical Capabilities: work may involve long periods of standing and handling of numerous chemicals and/or hazardous biological material.
5. Work Environment: laboratory environment; may require working evenings and weekends.
6. Must be able to work independently following a brief period of specific technical training.
7. Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
