Research Scientist I, Chemistry

 

Adolor Corporation is a biopharmaceutical company located in suburban Philadelphia specializing in the discovery, development and commercialization of novel prescription pain management products. Adolor has more than 120 employees working in areas including discovery research, drug development, clinical research, manufacturing, business development and marketing.

 

Reporting to the Principal Research Investigator, the Research Scientist I, Chemistry conducts literature searches and applies organic synthesis techniques to carry out the synthesis of biologically active compounds. In consultation with supervisor, the Research Scientist I develops novel synthetic routs to new compounds, fully characterizes compounds using appropriate instrumentation including NMR, LCMS and CHN and solves routine purification problems.  The Research Scientist I will also present results at internal group meetings and will be expected to maintain a laboratory notebook.

 

Responsibilities

· Initiates the design on own work within scientific disapline of organic synthesis

· Interprets results of one’s own work and their impact on other’s work and plans appropriate follow-up activities.

· Interacts with team members outside of immediate disapline to share results of work and to interpret data.

· Suggests solutions to challenges/problems encountered in own work

· Suggests solutions for modifying existing procedures for improving results to synthesize biologically active compounds.

· Reporduces complex literature methods

 

Qualifications

· BS/BA degree with 4+ years pharmaceutical experience or MS/MA degree with 2+ years pharmaceutical experience.

· Previous experience in one’s own disapline of organic chemistry.

· Solid knowledge of principles and concepts of scientific disapline and the ability to apply with self-reliance and general guidance.

· Ability to organize and plan own work to goals and timelines.

· Good written and verbal communication skills.
