Research Technician

The Immune Disease Institute, located in Boston and affiliated with Harvard Medical School, is one of the world’s foremost private biomedical research institutions.  We have and opening for a full time Research Technician in the laboratory of  Dr. Eileen Remold.

We are looking for a highly organized and responsible person to join our innate immunity research lab as full-time animal technologist/research technician. One set of responsibilities include maintaining and keeping accurate database inventory of a colony of transgenic and knockout mice. Working closely with research staff, the Animal Technologist will be responsible for blood collection and preparing DNA from tail snips for genomic DNA isolation and PCR analysis. Utilizing the results of the genotypic analysis, the individual must maintain the colonies to ensure that animals are available for studies as needed.

The second set of responsibilities, roughly 60% of total effort, will be research activities including enzyme assays, flow cytometry, Western blots, ELISA and assisting in animal experimentation. The major focus of our laboratory is innate immune defense mechanisms of the lung particularly anti-microbial and anti-viral defense. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational, record keeping and communication skills; training will be provided as necessary. A bachelors degree in a biomedical field and excellent academic accomplishments are a must. Prior work with mice or other animals is preferred.
