The purpose of this position is to direct and perform Preclinical Pharmacology activities. Studies to be conducted will include evaluation of candidate molecules at the in vitro (tissue culture) and in vivo (animal model) level. Candidate molecules will include antisense oligonucleotides. Studies will be done to determine if such molecules down-regulate mRNA and target proteins as well as inhibit tumor cell growth assessed by growth assays apoptotic assay signal transduction assays, transcriptional reporter assay, or any other appropriate assay to indicate anticancer activity.  In vivo assessment of such molecules will be done by xenograft tumor assays syngenic tumor models, orthotopic models or transgenic mouse models (which ever is appropriate). Additional candidate molecules may include PEGylated proteins or small molecules. The candidate is expected to design experiments, perform experiments (with technical assistance if needed), and summarize the findings in written and verbal format. It is anticipated that the position will have 2 laboratory personnel reporting to it. The candidate is expected to become the primary source of knowledge for the targeted mechanism and therefore must become very familiar with the literature on the target.

 

Requires Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, and Tumor Biology, 7 years tumor pharmacology experience that could include 2 years of post-Doctoral work with 5 years industrial experience in tumor pharmacology, and demonstrated publication record with at least 7 publications in major peer-review journals. Previous experience with antisense technology or drug delivery, at least 2 years previous management experience directing one or more scientists, self-motivated and willing to seek solutions using all possible resources, and basic knowledge of chemistry, antisense molecules, small molecules, or proteins are plusses.
