Scientific Analyst
SUMMARY:
The position consists of analysis of data and the tracking of samples through the clinical testing process, as well as the analysis of data for research projects. For the report genration aspects of this position the use of bioinformatics processes to interpret clinical nucleotide variation data will be required. The employee will be expected to follow both standard operating protocols and develop novel protocols, maintain meticulous records, think critically, work within a team, and communicate effectively both vertically and horizontally.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assist the study directors in the management and tracking of clinical tests to ensure completion and timely delivery.
· Work with the Clinical Services group to provide status updates for patient samples on an as needed basis.
· Analyze and interpret nucleotide variation in clinical and non-clinical sequencing and genotyping tests.
· Utilize in-house software tools to generate reports for clinical sequencing tests.
· Perform critical quality control functions for clinical reports
· Assist Research Scientists with research including literature searches and data reviews.
· Generate, format, place and track oligo primer orders.
· Generate or update SOPs as needed.
· Work closely with managers from the QA/QC, and Study Management groups to troubleshoot, coordinate, and develop new processes to maintain and improve data quality and tracking.
· Work closely with data analysts and the clinical project manager to ensure timely, accurate reports.
· Work closely with other interested parties within PGxHealth to identify genes that warrant additional analyses and to ensure that attempts are made to bring those genes that do not meet HAPTMBuilding criteria to successful resolution.
BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:
· Education, Experience, and Knowledge
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; 1-3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Preferred experience with public genomic tools and databases.Experience with clinical testing preferred.
· Skills and Abilities
· Well organized.
· Must be able to multi-task.
· Good analytical and reasoning skills.
· Good problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
· Must have excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
