Scientist - Gene Therapy

The ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI), is a non profit organization developing therapeutics for the treatment of ALS. ALS TDI uses a well established transgenic mouse model to investigate cutting edge therapeutics in the treatment of ALS. The model is also extensively used to characterize the ALS disease process and correlate the mouse model disease condition to the human disease condition. Additional mouse models will likely be added to the animal program during the next two years.

 

We are seeking an experienced Scientist to oversee the execution of in vivo viral gene experiments, which may include delivery of adenoviral vectors, adeno-associated viral vectors, and lentivirus. Additional responsibilities include management of “in life” pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, and chronic disease survival efficacy studies. This position reports to the Director of Animal Studies.

 

Research projects may include but are not limited to genomics, proteomics, small molecule therapeutics, viral vector gene therapies, naked oligonucleotide gene therapies, and stem cell research. The opportunity for independent research projects exists. 

 

Common surgical procedures include, but are not limited to, murine deep cerebellar nuclei injections, intracerebral ventricular bolus/infusion and intrathecal bolus/infusion.

 

Qualifications:BS degree, 5+ years of experience.Prior experience with adenoviral and adeno-associated viral vectors required.Rodent surgical experience required.Familiarity with stereotaxic instrument desired.Deep desire to further develop and improve surgical techniques and procedures required.Familiar with murine chronic disease model (or neurologic disease model) research.Prior experience in management of rodent colonies, highly desirable.Excellent communication skills required; fluency in English – speaking, reading, and writing.
