Vertex is seeking a talented individual to join our Chemical Development group in San Diego CA. Chemical Development at Vertex plays a vital role in bridging the gap between new pharmaceutical discoveries and commercial products. The successful candidate will be a highly productive, results-oriented individual, able to generate and implement original ideas and solutions that contribute materially to the success and development of drug substance candidates. Strong communication, organization, and planning skills and a high level of technical aptitude and creativity are required for success in this position. Key responsibilities for this role include: - Supporting drug substance process development via laboratory development, kilo lab scale-up, and drug supply preparation. - Developing, troubleshooting, and optimizing multi-step chemical syntheses at the bench and kilo-lab scales. - Technical transfer of procedures to external kilo labs or pilot plants for GMP and non-GMP manufacture - Maintaining lab equipment and laboratory instrumentation (including PAT) - Training chemical development personnel in scale-up techniques, kilo lab procedures, and process safety. Basic Qualifications - A B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 8+ (BS), 5+ (MS) or 3+ (PhD) years of relevant pharmaceutical industry experience. Experience preparing batches of material for GLP and/or GMP studies is required. - A strong interest and background in scale-up operations, kilo-lab equipment, and laboratory instrumentation. - Proven communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. - An outlook that's innovative, safety conscious, quality minded, and customer oriented Apply Now
