SENIOR BUSINESS SYSTEMS ANALYST

Job Summary:
The Senior Business Systems Analyst (Analyst) leads complex projects and supports the Martek business community by actively leading and participating in the full systems development life-cycle through to implementation of the business solution. This position will leverage technology to meet the business goals and objectives as defined by our business partners. The Analyst is accountable to successfully facilitate and document business and functional requirements. This person works closely with the business community and IT staff to ensure clarity of the business and functional requirements. The Analyst is responsible to accurately define the final solution and ensures that it will meet the business partner’s expectations once deployed. This Analyst is responsible to document and/or formulate the requirements during the Requirements stage of the project, as well as develop the required test cases and functional test scripts that will guide the quality testing during the Acceptance stage. Additionally, the Analyst is responsible for creating and managing project plans, tasks, timelines, resources and diagrams that support the project during the development life-cycle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Maintains the liaison role between the Martek business community and IT on internal project initiatives and change management efforts.Leads teams through successful project completion by partnering with the business.Leads by example, is innovative and delivers high quality business solutions in a timely manner. Partners with business project sponsors and project leaders to ensure all proposed technologies and solutions will meet the business requirements as defined. This includes both in-house developed systems and Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) solutions.Follows the system development life-cycle (SDLC) by embracing and promoting the development standards, procedures and guidelines as defined by IT Development.Maintains the accountability for all project responsibilities and logistics by gathering and analyzing business requirements and translates them into functional and system specifications. Stays current on new technologies, evaluates ways of incorporating technology into Martek’s business processes, and makes recommendations to IT Development and business users. Determines the necessary level of involvement from the Information Technology staff during the project stages.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Some supervising and mentoring IT staff may be required.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor degree in Computer Systems or Management Information System or related IT field with a minimum of 6-8 years of experience required or a combination of related education and 10 + years of related IT experience acceptable. Advanced degree in IT related area is a plus.
2. Skilled in Business Process Modeling (BPM), Logical Data Modeling (LDM) and requirements gathering techniques using a proven industry system development methodology is mandatory.
3. Competencies include excellent interviewing skills, facilitation, organization, project management, analytical and problem solving, with strong verbal and written communications is required.
4. Must be a strong leader, motivator, and team player who is results oriented.
5. Experienced in developing highly effective presentations and facilitating productive meetings.
6. Previous experience should include 2-4 years in engineering or manufacturing systems, 1-2 years in the finance or accounting industry, and 5-7 years in the IT industry facilitating business and functional requirements of complex projects across multiple business units.
7. Previous in-depth experience identifying, planning and managing the implementation of business solutions to meet business specific needs is required.
8. Actual management of projects is mandatory.
9. Fluent with tools to document business requirements/processes (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio and MS Project, etc.) is required.
10. Knowledge of IT controls and policies to include Sarbanes-Oxley legislation and regulations is highly desirable.
11. Six Sigma certification or PMI project management certification a plus.
12. Familiar with web technologies, PC hardware platforms, MS Operating Systems, web-based systems and development tools necessary.
13. Expert with all aspects of Microsoft Office products with Share Point a plus.
Travel:
A moderate amount of travel may be required to our facilities in Colorado, Kentucky, and South Carolina. Travel can be expected to reach 50%.
