Due to our extended growth, we currently have a need for the following position:Principal function is to direct the efforts of an interdepartmental team for strategic capital projects. The successful incumbent identifies project risks and develops mitigation strategies to protect against loss. The Sr. Project Manager is accountable to accomplish the defined scope in a compliant manner and is responsible for schedule and budget performance on all project assignments. 5% Promotes compliance with all corporate, safety and cGMP standards, procedures and policies 5% Works with project sponsors to build and charter a project?s core-team10% Coordinates the efforts of project controls and other staff assigned to a project25% Selects and oversees contract architectural, engineering, construction management, commissioning and validation firms (develops and/or negotiates contracts as required).15% Coordinates the deployment of all Shire internal resources to achieve objectives 15% Mentors less experienced project managers and project engineering staff members10% Oversees procurement and subcontracting on projects in compliance with Shire procurement policies10% Generates monthly reports and makes regular presentations to Senior Management. 5% Assists in developing and maintaining departmental policies and proceduresThe Sr. Project Manager routinely makes decisions regarding resource deployment and contingency management. The ability to manage complex and potentially competing tasks and business needs is critical.Being responsible for communications both within and outside the project team the Sr. PM must also manage the team?s political capital (credibility). Risk and issue management are central to the communications strategy with an objective to maintaining the proper threshold for escalation to avoid over or under reporting.The successful candidate is able to influence group decision making for the benefit of the project and the corporation. He/she must also know when to step in and make decisions for the greater good of the team without disempowering them.Shire is committed to providing high quality, competitive, and appropriate health care benefits for employees and their families.Shire is an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer.Requirements: Requires a minimum of eight years of project management experience in an engineering, construction or owner organization and a minimum of fifteen years related experience in Biopharmaceutical, Pharmaceutical or High Technology facility design and construction. Must have experience working in a regulated industry including experience with commissioning, validation, and start-up of manufacturing facilities. A BS degree in engineering, architecture or related discipline is required. MS, MBA, P.E. license or professional registration is a plus.Skills:Ability to consistently plan, initiate and deliver large complex projects or programs. The Sr. PM will frequently be involved at the outset of projects to set the job up for success and transition to an execution team. He/she may also be called on to step in and assist projects that are struggling.Demonstrated technical knowledge in the design, construction and start-up of high-tech facilities. Experience in transitioning from project execution to owner operations is a key differentiator for the Sr. PM position.Excellent facilitation and negotiating skills.
