Senior Database Engineer

The Senior Database Engineer will be a key team member and support Database Engineering development lifecycle and operational support in an exciting Bio-Technology company. Qualified candidate must have in-depth SQL Server experience in installation, configuration, performance tuning, backup/restore and application development for enterprise class systems. Additionally, the candidate must have strong database engineering and related skills and be able to multi-task on projects based on business priorities. This position requires proven project experience with SQL Server or equivalent RDBMS environment. The Senior database Engineer position offers significant growth potential within an innovative and dynamic cancer diagnostics company.   Contribute significantly to the development of database-related software development, system architecture, design, and development of Database schemas. Contribute significantly in improving existing OLTP models, and participating in design of new databases schemas. Contribute significantly in the data modeling of new software development related database design using ER-Studio or similar modeling tools. Contribute substantially in design & development of schema objects, technical review of SQL code with peers as well as design review with end-user audience. Contribute significantly in the database system and SQL profiling activities based on poorly performing use cases. Re-factor poorly performing SQL when necessary. Develop DTS packages, stored procedures and triggers, and other database related code. Undertake the deployment of database code to QA & Production, managing database source code & scripts and updating & maintaining data models. Collaborate with the QA team to create and execute system test plans and user-acceptance testing. Undertake Installation, maintenance, tuning, design, and troubleshooting of OLTP and OLAP applications Undertake key database Operational activities such as maintenance of databases including database object & index management. security, backup & recovery, database upgrades, automated monitoring of systems and performance tuning. Undertake system and Application tuning activities including tuning SQL queries and database/system performance for OLTP and DSS applications. Guide and mentor junior database engineers in efficient database design, data modeling and writing SQL code, T-SQL procedures etc Deep technical experience with entity relationship modeling & design of OLTP database schemas. Strong understanding of database-related aspects of the software development lifecycle such as change control management, unit testing, packaging and deployment of database changes and management of database source code projects. Strong experience in Database maintenance activities, automated monitoring and performance optimization of OLTP & OLAP databases. Hands-on experience designing, scripting, and tuning queries using ANSI-SQL (SQL-92) syntax. Must be familiar with some advanced T-SQL usage patterns to solve common query and aggregate reporting problems. Strong experience working with a Product Development team in an agile software development environment Demonstrated proficiency of troubleshooting techniques and detail-oriented problem diagnosis Must be experienced in troubleshooting issues, working with vendor support team is required. Attention to detail, and a commitment to quality work Must be a team player, and have excellent communication skills Enthusiastic interest in mastering monitoring and management software Solid analytical skills and integration knowledge Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment Effective verbal and written communication skills 5+ years hands-on experience with SQL Server technologies in online and Data Warehouse environments.
