Senior Director / Director of Biology Purpose of the Position: The purpose of this position is to provide exemplary scientific & strategic leadership in developing & growing biology capabilities for drug discovery programs in his / her organization. The incumbent shall provide through thought leadership, influencing changes in bringing operational excellence and creating an environment of collaborative research driving successful programs in meeting the business and scientific objectives as approved by the Vice President Biology. Reporting to the Vice President of Biology, the selected candidate will oversee approximately 90 employees, both direct and indirect.  Training & Education Required:  Doctoral degree in Biology related from a reputed university in India or abroad.  Location: Bangalore, India Years of relevant experience:  A total experience of at-least 12 - 15 years of which the last 3-5 years in a very senior leadership role and has been handling multiple programs and portfolios in a Drug Discovery set up and has contributed significantly to Biology aspect.  Key Attributes of the candidate:  The incumbent should have a mixed experience of working both in a major Pharmaceuticals & Biotech environment. Hands on experience in identification of lead and or clinical candidates from inception. Directed Biology team in Lead Discovery development/optimization including that of In-Vivo biology. Conversant in technology evaluation, assessing in-house and external scientific studies. The candidate should have demonstrated experience in managing reasonable portfolio of integrated programs in the last 3-5 years. The candidate should possess excellent judgmental and decision making capabilities. Strong networking skills with experts in academia & industry. The incumbent must be very collaborative & also well established in managing a large group of individuals / teams in mentoring & nurturing science. Extremely conversant with environmentally friendly processes and laboratory practices. The candidate must have penned publications & patents on New Chemical Entities (NCEs). Principal Accountabilities:  Responsible for the biology in drug discovery & development process for the various business engagements and the organization. Conceptualizing & structuring processes and systems to ensure operational excellence in the organization. Scientific responsibilities include managing the team of principal scientists. Heading the 'In vitro biology' division including Assay and HTS groups both scientifically and managerially support all the drug discovery programs. Lead multiple drug discovery programs. Initiate new drug discovery programs. Encouraging collaboration with computational and chemistry research groups to support a cohesive and build-in cross-functional scientific synergies for drug discovery process.  Responsible for ensuring delivery time-lines and adherence to customer quality standards. Customer Relationship management. Collaborating with other Strategic Business Unit Heads in providing scientific knowledge and inputs supporting business growth. Partnering with HR in developing and building scientific competencies in the organization. Revenue and budget management. Responsible for optimal utilization of resources in his/her organization. Responsible for driving career advancement plans, objective / goal setting, deciding on the Goals & Objectives for direct reports and ensuring a similar approach for down the line reporting in the organization.  Supporting implementation of various HR policies and procedures as published from time to time to ensure smooth functioning of the operations.
