Senior Finance Manager

Responsibilities:The Senior Finance Manager will manage a team of analysts supporting the CFO group at Genentech. This is a key component of the overall G&A and supports an executive committee member. Genentech's finance organization is seeking a strong Senior Finance Manager to act as the primary finance partner supporting the CFO organization. This group also contains the IT organization which represents a significant portion of spend and activity. This position will be responsible for monthly performance reporting and forecasting, monthly accounting close (entries, accruals, reconciliations, etc.), annual budgeting, long-range planning and various ad hoc projects and analysis. The incumbent will be a strategic business partner with internal stakeholders developing and ensuring sound integrated financial practices and process that will enhance financial performance and operational decision making. This role will be responsible for building and maintaining an effective business partnership between the Finance and IT groups. This position will manage four individual contributors. The incumbent will report to the Director of G&A Finance and will have a strong dotted line relationship to specific finance and IT leaders.The successful candidate will also play a significant role in the direct support of the functions. The candidate will be required to effectively communicate and exhibit strong financial and accounting skills as well as leverage financial tools and systems to provide for desired analytics. Key measures of success in the role include: effective partnering with our internal customers, a demonstrated command of the underlying operational and financial content of the functions supported, proactive identification and resolution of the account and financial planning issues as well as accuracy and timeliness of financial results and plans. Requirements:The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Business/Economics; a MBA, CPA and/or CFA is desired. A minimum of 8 eight years of experience in finance and operations in positions of responsibility, including at least five years of experience as a financial business partner is required. Experience with IT and capital investment planning is strongly preferred. Experience with budgeting forecasting and analysis in a large complex organization is required. Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills are essential. Candidates must be comfortable working in a fast-paced changing environment. Biotech or Pharma experience is desired. The candidate must possess proactive solutions oriented capability and ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to focus on the highest value activity. Proven customer service orientation and leadership and influencing skills are required, as is a proven ability to build and lead effective teams and the ability to work collaboratively with non-finance groups. The candidate must have a strong orientation toward driving to results. Proficiency with all standard desktop computer applications (MS suite), with a hands on background with accounting systems and enterprise planning tools (SAP/SAP BW/Cognos) is required. Knowledge of the IT function and the administration of capital programs (budgeting, reporting, valuation analysis, etc.) will aid the success of the candidate.
