 Position description: The successful candidate will become a member of the Ironwood Pharmaceuticals Legal Department, reporting to the General Counsel. This position will be responsible for managing the intellectual property affairs of a small pharmaceutical company. This is a great opportunity for an experienced intellectual property counsel to be the first IP counsel at a growth oriented pharmaceutical company. 

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include building the IP function, client counseling, patent life cycle management, management of outside counsel, management and negotiation of certain intellectual property agreements, such as research and license agreements, performance and management of due diligence in support of business transactions, docket management, invention disclosure management,  trademark portfolio management, some drafting and prosecution of patent applications, and working with internal project teams on intellectual property strategy matters. 

 Requirements:5-10 years experience. BA/BS and JD from an accredited law school.  Chemistry background preferred. Experience in a law firm and a pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical corporation is strongly preferred. Substantial experience with business development, intellectual property strategy, as well as small molecule and large molecule pharmaceutical and related manufacturing intellectual property issues, including trade secret and patent preparation/prosecution is required.
