Senior Manager, Clinical Science Specialists
Responsibilities:· Contribute to the design and implementation of strategic, operational and people plans for the Clinical Scientist Specialist organization including long-range planning for the next 5-10 years to meet scalability and productivity goals· Accountable for coaching and developing Clinical Science Specialist, and possibly other Clinical Science Specialist Managers, by providing an environment that encourages ongoing personal and professional development· Expected to further develop appropriate management depth and succession candidates, including their own successor· Responsible for resource planning, recruitment, interviewing and hiring for the Clinical Science Specialist group· Ensure timely and optimal allocation of staff to all priority projects· Regularly communicate with management on resource requirements and staff performance including partnering with specific Medical Directors to ensure appropriate resource allocation· Manage the performance of Clinical Science Specialists and possibly other Clinical Science Specialist Managers (including goal setting, performance management and appropriate development plans)· Responsible for successful planning and deployment of relevant staff to project and non-project related tasks· Ensure that clinical protocols are set up, executed and delivered in accordance with the overall clinical development plans· Ensure that optimal dual reporting relationships are established and maintained with relevant Medical Directors· Responsible for ensuring that optimal relationships with key internal partner and stakeholder groups are established and maintained· Ensure that appropriate systems and tools are implemented to enable successful clinical development and post marketing plans· Responsible for increased productivity and efficiency of processes and resources· Participate in budget planning and management· Responsible to work internally and externally to optimize and continually improve processes; to create and maintain role definitions and standards; and to develop and deploy appropriate role-based competency and training programs· Responsible for the performance of assigned Clinical Science Specialist personnel against processes, standards and performance goals, and for ensuring successful completion of all training required for the role· Delegate functional tasks/responsibilities (as outlined in the Clinical Science Specialist job family) Requirements:· Bachelor’s degree (Pharm.D. or Master's degree preferred)· Minimum of 10 years of Clinical Research experience, including five years of experience in managing direct reports, either as a functional/line manager or co-accountable for performance management within a team matrix, or combination of equivalent experience· Minimum of five years of experience managing budgets, timelines and resources· Broad knowledge of pharmaceutical research and development· Comprehensive knowledge of ICH/GCPs· Proficient computer skills· Ability to work effectively in a matrix environment· Demonstrated strong, dynamic leadership skills· Ability to communicate with credibility and confidence· Ability to strive for the achievement of excellence· Display a high-level of commitment· Ability to generate enthusiasm Genentech is dedicated to fostering an environment that is inclusive and encourages diversity of thought, style, skills and perspective.
