The Senior Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and monitoring the performance of the Pre-analytical Services department. Responsibilities also include developing, implementing, and revising procedures/processes, resolving problems, and personnel management. The Manager will also provide leadership and direction to LPS staff in meeting the Company’s deadlines, challenges and goals. 1.Responsible for financial activities of the department: a)Assist in preparation of operating and capital budgets for the sections. b)Analyze expenditures for cost effectiveness and monitor budget performance to plan. Respond as required to variances in plan versus actual expenditures. c)Facilitate and direct the development of innovative solutions to improve productivity. 2.Maintain area in inspection ready conditions and in compliance with regulatory standards. a)Ensure all procedures and processes meet CLIA / CAP / New York State requirements with the assistance of the technical liaison. b)Review processes to ensure they are error free and compare with other laboratory areas for consistency. c)Update personal training file with accurate documentation. d)Ensure personnel competency is assessed and in alignment with laboratory regulations. 3.Responsible for personnel issues of the department. a)Ensure that all area personnel are appropriately trained. b)Review staff training records for accurate, complete, updated, and filed documentation that meet universal precautions wide regulatory compliance. c)Develop and coach direct reports and staff by preparing and conducting formal performance evaluations as well as frequent informal performance discussions. d)Plan and implement staffing plans for area. Recruit, interview and select appropriate internal and external candidates to fulfill staffing needs. e)Conduct and document monthly meetings for laboratory area to maintain effective communication with staff. f)Ensure personnel competency is assessed and in alignment with laboratory regulations. 4.Customer service initiatives. a)Assist in evaluation of all appropriate feasibilities. b)Develop and implement new procedures / protocols on a timely basis. c)Consult with sponsor representatives on translation of protocol requirements into laboratory operating procedures; ensure accurate implementation of those procedures. d)Ensure area participation in sponsor visits and interact with customers relative to project audits and QA audits. e)Work closely with customer service to ensure processes are well understood within Covance CLS. 5.Develop and direct process improvement initiatives. a)Work interdepartmentally on a global basis to improve current database / process issues. b)Identify opportunities for improvement. c)Facilitate and direct the development of innovative solutions to improve quality processes. d)Responsible for definition, specification and implementation of software systems required to improve quality and productivity. 6.Ensure representation on the Laboratory Safety Committee and accept associated assignments. Maintain a high degree of safety awareness by practicing Universal Precaution Procedures, developing policies and procedures to minimize biohazard waste generation, and maintain an orderly laboratory appearance. 7.Prepare a monthly report of activities for the Director.
