Senior Manager, Public Relations

Invitrogen is seeking highly skilled individual to represent the organization to the media. In this role, you will: plan, develop and implement public relations strategies and tactics. Serve as global liaison for worldwide sites on public relations matters. Manage, develop and mentor at least one full-time employee. Manage and direct PR agency activities to maximize the reach and frequency of corporate and product marketing messages.Essential Functions * Drive day-to-day public relations strategies and tactics for Invitrogen, including corporate and product-related news releases, new product introductions, product trade shows, product placement and editorial requests. * Establish and cultivate global media relationships with mainstream, trade and business publications. * Draft press releases, media advisories, and product announcements.* Create and maintain editorial calendar and look for opportunities where Invitrogen could submit relevant articles or product updates. * Proactively report on industry trends and competitive activity relevant to the company's business units. *Recommend and oversee the implementation of new or revised approaches to the current plan and strategies. * Manage external PR agency.* Manage and develop full-time media relations manager.* Provide on site media relations support at key product trade shows. * Develop and maintain appropriate media databases. * Provide backup to Corporate Communications staff in planning and execution of all department activities, including investor and community relations events, and trade shows. * Assist with regular updates to the corporate website. Requirements:* Minimum of 8 years of relevant public relations/media relations experience * Previous management experience required* Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or journalism; advanced degree preferred* Demonstrated experience managing activities across multiple business units and locations * Excellent communications skills, verbal and written * PR agency experience preferred * Self directed and a self starter * Ability to multi-task * Strong Word and Excel skills.
