Senior Network Specialist (CCNP or CCIE)

The Network Services team is responsible for project deployment and 24x7 operations support of Genentech's enterprise wired and wireless networks which serve over 15,000 users and are comprised of wireless access points, switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, proxies, VPN concentrators and optical network devices.   Responsibilities:We are looking for a leader with strong technical, vendor and process management skills to work closely with our architecture and engineering teams as well as managed service providers to maintain 99.99% availability of our existing services while successfully deploying emerging network technologies. This person will be a senior point of escalation for network incidents and problems. Additionally, this individual will mentor and train existing staff helping them to continue to operate as a high performance network team. Requirements:A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent work experience is required. The candidate must have a minimum of eight years of experience in Cisco LAN and WAN support and planning, as well as a minimum of five years of experience working in a high availability operational environment. CCNA is required; CCNP, CISSP or CISM is a plus. The candidate must possess a proven ability to face enterprise challenges with confidence and demonstrate the ability to take appropriate business risks. We are looking for a leader who enables and influences change across the business, a person known as a catalyst for success. S/he must have a proven track record for delivering excellence thus enabling us to meet the scientific demands of our biotechnology revolution in information technologies. The incumbent must have expert knowledge of the TCP IP protocol suite; expert knowledge of Cisco Catalyst switches (6500, 4500 and 3700) and various routers in a high speed, redundant, complex and large enterprise; and expert knowledge of troubleshooting methodologies as they apply to resolving complex technical network problems. Previous experience using packet capture devices for network troubleshooting is required. S/he must have strong knowledge of Fortinet Firewalls, Checkpoint Firewalls and F5 load balancers in a high availability data center environment; strong knowledge in routing theory and protocols especially with BGP and OSPF configuration and analysis in large enterprises with multimedia applications such as video conferencing streaming and VoIP; strong knowledge of wireless technologies, including 802.11abgn protocols, Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP) and Cisco Wireless Services Modules (WiSM); strong working knowledge of Voice-over-IP and IP Telephony services, as well as Quality of Service (QoS) and Power over Ethernet (PoE); and strong working knowledge of DHCP and DNS. The candidate must have an understanding of authentication and data encryption. The ability to handle multiple problems and prioritize workload is essential. The incumbent must have demonstrated experience in designing, deploying and managing processes. Excellent organizational and personal communication skills are imperative to this role. S/he must demonstrate commitment to customer service. Project management skills are a definite plus.
