Senior Research Fellow - (Job Number: 0716582) DescriptionJohnson and Johnson PRD, a Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Senior Research Fellow (Director), located in Raritan, NJ. Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, L.L.C. develops treatments that improve the health and lifestyles of people worldwide. Research and development areas encompass novel targets in neurologic disorders, gastroenterology, oncology, infectious disease, diabetes, hematology, metabolic disorders, immunologic disorders, and reproductive medicine. The candidate works in a team environment to support the advancement of antibacterial agents in development. Leads a team of senior microbiologists who are working on characterization of new agents for regulatory submissions and monitors surveillance studies of resistance. Designs and implements new studies to evaluate possible new resistance mechanisms in multidrug-resistant Gram-positive bacteria. The candidate works with other senior people on the team and across functional areas to allocate resources among microbiology projects encompassing marketed products, late stage development candidates and early development compounds. Prepares technical reports, manuscripts, and supervises the preparation of microbiological regulatory documents. Keeps abreast of scientific literature in clinical microbiology, new antibacterial agents and infectious diseases. Participates in internal meetings with presentations of research projects and presents work at external meetings when appropriate. The candidate will support antibacterial drug candidates or compounds in development by overseeing groups of senior scientists who are conducting microbiology studies on mechanism of action and resistance mechansims for new antibacterial agents and comparative agents. The candidate will participate in meetings to evaluate Licensing candidates. The candidate will oversee the preparation of regulatory documents for compounds in early Development and will review internal documents and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals. PhD in Microbiology or related field. is required. 15+ years pharmaceutical experience, primarily in a microbiology Drug Discovery/Development program and postdoctoral work with publications are required. The candidate must be skilled in microbiology research techniques, and must have experience in the in vitro evaluations of antimicrobial agents. Experience with and a working knowledge of resistant bacterial pathogens are important attributes. A good publication record is preferred. Hands-on experience with regulatory documents (INDs, NDAs) is preferred. Demonstrated managerial skills are critical.
