Senior Scientist Senior Scientist Seeking a Senior Scientist to perform basic investigations on molecular and cellular events that occur on the Product teststrip during coagulation. Study how medical and disease factors can affect coagulation on the teststrip. Makes recommendations, based on scientific experiments, on how physiological conditions can affect the INRatio assay, and how the assay can be improved.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Conducts fundamental biophysical studies on the Product teststrip. Study the coagulation reaction in the teststrip to understand cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie the change in impedance that occurs on the strip. Designs and conducts studies demonstrating how physiological and medical factors and conditions may affect the impedance curve. Provide input and obtains data to help optimize the algorithm for determining PT from the impedance curve.  2. Provide appropriate written documentation in company-standard formats to support experimental strategies, new ideas, procedures, experimental results and program findings. Publishes work in peer-reviewed journals as appropriate. Presents studies at scientific conferences and workshops. 3. Participate in company-wide activities such as corrective action teams and quality programs. 4. Provide technical expertise in specific scientific areas. Maintain proficiency and expertise in specific technical areas through literature research. 5. Develop and design experimental strategies for projects which includes evaluating ideas for application to existing projects, or which lead to new or improved products or processes. REQUIREMENTS: 1. MS or PhD in Biophysics, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or equivalent multidisciplinary field. 5+ years’ post-graduate experience in RD, in academia or other scientific institution. Assay experience in a hemostasis laboratory will be considered. Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals. 2. At least 5 years’ post-graduate experience in RD, in academia or other scientific institution. Assay experience in a hemostasis laboratory will be considered. 3. Strong scientific knowledge of cell biology, biochemistry, hemostasis and thrombosis, or equivalent. Well-versed in biomedical conditions affecting hemostasis. Experience in biophysics and bioengineering instrumentation for performing optical and video measurements. Well versed in experimental design and data collection and data analysis methods.  4. A high level of competency in one or more scientific disciplines, including proficiency in laboratory work and understanding of fundamental theoretical concepts. 5. Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations.  6. Must be able to write clear reports and procedures. Ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations. 7. Ability to operate a computer for data analysis and presentations. 8. Well-versed in Excel, Flash, MediaPlayer, and one or more statistics packages including Minitab, SAS, or JMP.
