Neutrogena Corporation develops, manufactures and markets premium skin and hair care products sold worldwide and recommended by medical professionals. The product line includes bar and liquid cleansers, shampoo, hand cream, body lotion, facial moisturizers, sun protection and cosmetics, as well as other hair and skin care products recommended, used, and prescribed by dermatologists. The Sr. Scientist will support all categories within the Neutrogena Franchise (sun care, anti aging, cleansing, body care, devices, etc). A qualified candidate will assume product testing responsibilities and interface closely with cross-functional teams to design, execute, and analyze a wide range of qualitative and quantitative consumer/sensory research. Works under general supervision to review product design, and test protocols. The candidate's goal will be to help elevate the consumer-centricity of the R&D organization by engaging the customer of his/her services by thoroughly thinking through project/research objectives, success criteria/action standards, and expected use of results/actions to be taken. Assists in the development and recommendation of appropriate research methodology/test design, analyzing consumer data, making sound project recommendations, and summarizing the results. Observational and home use testing of product prototypes (qualitative and quantitative). Partner with Franchise R&D, Product Design, MRD and regional Consumer Science if appropriate in the development of superior products that truly delight the consumer. The Sr. Scientist will participate in the design evaluation and provide guidance on the choice and development of the most appropriate test design for evaluating prototype options. Perform execution of the agreed-upon test design with active customer involvement. Will provide guidance on the analysis and interpretation of consumer data and provide recommendations/next steps. This individual will provide guidance on developing a consumer model, relating to the technical data with qualitative and quantitative consumer data to progress product optimization. The Sr. Scientist will partner with Franchise R&D and Product Design, MRD and regional Consumer Science if appropriate to conduct sensory testing/expert panels that enable better prediction of consumer acceptance in large-scale testing so as to allow for more rapid prototype development/optimization. This individual will evaluate and audit vendors/suppliers' capability to execute studies with excellence. A Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Consumer Research, Psychology, Sensory Science or Statistics combined with 3 - 5 years work experience is required, preferably 1 - 3 of those years within a related field. A Masters degree is preferred. Experience working in a consumer products company performing consumer research testing or consumer driven product development is a preferred. It's essential to have a creative approach to research with a strong technical base in all phases of testing (experimental design, questionnaire development, qualitative, quantitative analysis). Strong statistical and sensory research background is required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) are essential. Must have strong analytical thinking with problem solving skills combined with compassionate listening skills, and an ability to integrate/internalize learning from a variety of sources/experiences. Must function in a global, multi-disciplinary team environment. This position requires around 20% travel domestic and international.
