Senior Scientist - Molecular Diagnostics
Job Description:
Diagnostic test development/support using nucleic acid, organic synthesis, and immunochemical methods
· Coordinate and advise senior management on research and development plans for nucleic acid diagnostics for GMOs, plant pathogens, and other targets
·Participate in collaborative development of rapid nucleic-acid based field tests
·Develop IMS-PCR technology for plant pathogen detection
·Perform in-house PCR assays as needed for product support or cell culture lab
·Derivatize and conjugate small molecules to proteins and enzymes for use as antigens or immunoassay reagents
·Other duties as assigned
Reports To: Vice President, Product Development
Secondary Responsibilities:
Expected to perform or contribute to rigorous method validations and data analysis for products under development. Required to maintain familiarity with scientific literature and technical advances in nucleic acid detection.
Job Requirements:
·Experience with molecular biology techniques, particularly PCR
·Familiarity with nucleic acid-based diagnostics
·Basic knowledge of organic synthesis and product characterization
·Knowledge of GLPs helpful, and ability to work with minimum supervision
·Ability to multi-task
Education Requirements:
Minimum M.S. degree in molecular biology or biochemistry. A self-starter with a Ph.D. degree in chemistry or biochemistry with either relevant thesis work or post-doctoral experience preferred.
Additional Expertise or Requirements:
This position requires possession of broad skills in molecular biology, biochemistry, and organic chemistry. Experience in human, veterinary or agricultural diagnostics all considered relevant. Requires a self-starter with strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to plan and work to a schedule on multiple simultaneous projects. Contribution of new ideas to speed product development and market introduction a major plus. Proficiency with PC-based applications and technical writing skills are required assets.
