Senior Software Developer - Dx Instrument GUI

IDEXX Laboratories is a worldwide leader in innovative products and services for veterinary, food and water applications. We combine biotechnology with medical devices and information technology to support veterinarians? efforts in providing excellent care. We are seeking a senior member of the team responsible for the software development of the company's VetLab? In-House Laboratory diagnostic instruments and associated products suite.

This individual will be responsible for designing and implementing enhancements to the user interface for two newly released diagnostic instruments. Work will include user navigation, feature access, and data presentation screens as well as the underlying software components required to support those screens and other aspects of the application.

This individual will be experienced with the standard waterfall development method and work well with other team members in following and refining the company?s software development processes.

This individual will be expected to leverage an extensive background in programming practices as well as an understanding of emerging technologies and their impact on the software product quality and it?s time to market.

This individual will collaborate with other software team members and both internal and external IDEXX customers to define system requirements, design, present, and discuss interface solutions, assess their relative strengths and weaknesses, and then implement the chosen design.

This individual will work as part of a small team that interacts with many other disciplines within the company. As a result, this individual should have strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work effectively in a cross-functional environment.

Required skills: Advanced skills in user interface analysis and design including: o Use case analysis and user workflow development o Screen layout and user interaction o Data entry, retrieval, and presentation o Rapid prototyping and mockups Advanced skills in creating and maintaining process documentation including: o Customer requirements o Interface design specifications o Detailed design documents o Paper prototypes and storyboards Advanced skills in object oriented design and programming including UML modeling Advanced skills in partitioning user interface components from business logic Advanced skills in application coding, debugging, and unit testing Familiarity with and skill using standard waterfall and agile development methods Clear and logical communications skills in both written and spoken environments Ability to work in a cross-functional team of developers in implementing a design Capable of keeping abreast of technological advances Capable of working under own initiative with minimum supervision Requirements:

Experience: 6+ years of experience in software development specifying, prototyping and development user interfaces 6+ years of experience using C++ or Java for user interface development 6+ years of experience in object-oriented software development Experience with the QT/C++ toolkit on a Linux platform  Experience working within an application framework Experience mentoring team members and setting the example of best practices Experience analyzing existing designs to evolve a design foundation A successful track record of completing software products within teams Demonstrated experience working well with peers of varying levels of technical expertise in high-pressure situations and complex environments Education: Bachelor?s degree or advanced degree with emphasis on one or more of the following: Computer Science Visual Design Information Science Human-Computer Interaction Human Factors Engineering Cognitive Science/Psychology
