Senior Staff Accountant

Job Duties

Responsible for accounting for assigned areas and review of GL account reconciliations performed by others as assigned; GL and related financial reporting systems maintenance; provides accounting backup in other areas as needed. Supervises one staff accountant.

1. G/L Reconciliations – Responsible for bank reconciliations, reconciling internally developed software, bank and money market accounts, chemical supplies inventory & reserves, property tax, internally developed software, legal, patent, consulting, vacation, health insurance, recruiting and other accrued expenses, time records for allocations, and other financial close duties;

2. GL maintenance – Maintain GL project codes, chart of accounts, related FRx reports;

3. Tax Compliance – Responsible for biotech tax credit, Delaware franchise taxes, other state duty or franchise taxes, personal property taxes, and real estate taxes, other related duties as assigned.

4. Reviews GL account reconciliations performed by staff accountants, including fixed assets, prepaids, received not invoiced accruals, pass through billings to collaboration partners, operating expense review for proper GL coding, vacation and other miscellaneous accruals.

5. Partners with financial planning and analysis to analyze actuals vs. forecasts in areas noted above.

6. Backup responsibilities include payroll, fixed assets, invoicing FTE contracts, libraries, Optimers & custom synthesis orders.

Position Requirements

BS in Accounting/Finance and 5+ years experience in Accounting field. Public accounting experience desired but not required, experience with an SEC company can substitute.

Certified Public Accountant not required but desirable.
