Software/System Staff Engineer - (Job Number: 0714716) DescriptionOrtho-Clinical Diagnostics, Inc, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Software/System Staff Engineer located in Rochester, NY. Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, Inc. provides in vitro diagnostic products to hospital, commercial and clinical laboratories, and blood donor centers. Its products include reagents and instrument systems used in blood typing and donor testing; clinical chemistry determinations and immunoassays for disease diagnosis and therapy management; as well as RhoGAM, an injectable drug used to prevent hemolytic disease of the newborn. The Software/ System Staff Engineer will have primary responsibilities to serve as the technical lead for a small software team that supports and enhances software applications and system software for existing medical diagnostic instrument platforms. This candidate will provide project and technical leadership for the design and implementation of selected software and hardware updates by coordinating activities of several software developers. Other responsibilities will include: lead a cross-functional team in planning, developing and delivering software updates to Manufacturing and the field; lead technical failure investigation support in software/hardware related areas; understand current system and software designs and develop appropriate responses for field issues as they arise; lead the software activities for a large software/system project or a number of small projects with many complex features; conceive, plan, and implement solutions to technical problems requiring unconventional approaches, new designs and equipment and/or process development. The Software/System Staff Engineer will serve as a software specialist in his/her area of expertise; keep abreast of new technical developments affecting the organization for a designated area of responsibility; lead cross-functional product delivery teams and represent the software development team in these teams; interact with 3rd party software/hardware developers for specific project deliverables as required; ensure team members practice company safety and quality policies and procedures and ensure personal and company compliance with all Federal, State, local and company regulations, policies and procedures for Health, Safety and Environmental compliance. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required. A minimum of 8 years of software engineering experience is required. Software Project Management experience leading cross-functional product teams and technical staff in the delivery of complex software/system solutions is required. Complex level software engineering experience in a cross-functional product development environment is required. Experience with hardware support using one of the following operating systems: Windows or QNX (Unix real-time) operating systems is preferred. A minimum of 5 years of programming in C or C++ is required. Expertise of software systems design, implementation and debugging are required. Experience with mature software organizations and practices such as CMMI are preferred. Experience designing/developing complex system software involving mechanical, electrical and/ or fluids controls is preferred. Experience managing the development and integration of external 3rd party deliverables, as part of a software/system project is required. Experience in the medical device industry and FDA GMP is preferred. Approximately 10% of domestic and international travel is required for this position.
