Sr. Mechanical Designer:

Summary:Design and develop complex mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Prepare detailed engineering documentation packages using CAD tools such as SolidWorks. Support R&D, Production and the Field by analyzing multiple and complex mechanical design issues with minimum direction. Create detailed engineering documentation packages.

Responsibilities:Apply thorough knowledge of standard drafting and mechanical design practices, including CAD practices, to develop and analyze complex mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Analyze product specifications, regulatory requirements, internal standards, OEM data sheets, etc. to produce design specifications.  Perform stress analysis and tolerance analysis studies. Create detailed engineering documentation packages up to and including Finished Goods assembly drawings.  Lay out mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.  Identify critical dimensions or features. Compute magnitude, direction, and a point of application of dynamic forces.  Design components, assemblies and systems to accommodate operating loads. Qualify mechanical or electro-mechanical components and systems.  Compile and analyze test data, up to and including system level functional tests and document results in Test Report format.  Identify and correct operating deficiencies. Apply knowledge of materials, mechanics, electronics, etc. to resolve electro-mechanical issues raised by R&D, Production or Field personnel. Apply project management techniques to manage critical path(s) in large design projects, or in multiple smaller parallel projects. Submit weekly status reports. Work collaboratively with other subject matter experts to design, develop and Qualify electro-mechanical systems. Performs other duties as assigned.High school diploma or GED plus a minimum of ten years mechanical design experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum seven years experience using SolidWorks to include solid modeling and detail drawing creation.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, and engineers.Deep and broad working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal fabrication,  injection molding and thermoforming.Strong working knowledge of mechanical components and mechanisms.  Ability to analyze mechanism, identify deficiencies and propose solutions.Basic understanding of electrical circuits and of devices such as motors, solenoids, etc.The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
