Support 2-3 patent attorneys in fast-paced yet collegial legal department of premier scientific instrumentation company. Major Responsibilities: prepare routine US and foreign prosecution documents such as patent application filing papers, Information Disclosure Statements, Sequence Listings, Declarations and Assignments, Responses to Office Actions, Transmittals, RCE's, Issue Fee Payments, and all other US forms; prepare PCT and foreign prosecution documents such as PCT filing papers, Chapter II examination requests and national stage instruction letters. Maintain invention disclosures, prepare litigation indexes, maintain art database, provide notary public services, communicate with inventors, outside attorneys and PTO regarding status of applications, coordinate with Licensing Department regarding in-licensed technology, and conduct legal research on Dialog and Lexis. Work closely with a team of attorneys and professionals to help develop the molecular biology and chemistry groups patent strategy and portfolio. Help with planning and cost tracking regarding international and foreign filing work. Assist legal department with various special projects. The position provides the opportunity to develop skills in both the chemistry and molecular biology fields. Also responsible for special projects arising from oppositions, litigations, reissues and reexams, and other projects as assigned. Some invoice tracking, ordering of patents and file histories, patent filing, and administrative tasks.
Bachelors degree and five plus years of patent legal experience required. Biotech or chemical patent experience and/or science degree preferred. Strong verbal and written communications skills, a friendly, team-oriented demeanor, reasoning skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are essential. Experience with Lotus Notes, iManage, EFS-Web, MS Office and CPI. 60+ WPM.
