S/he will participate in re-synthesis and scale up of preclinical lead compounds. This position will collate and understand structure activity relationships and provide recommendations to the medicinal chemistry project team. The position will be under the guidance and supervision of a senior scientist/group leader.QualificationsThe candidate will have a PhD degree in organic or medicinal chemistry with demonstrated expertise in organic synthesis, including application of modern synthetic techniques and tools. A strong background in experimental chemistry is expected. Knowledge of spectroscopic methods for small molecule analysis (NMR, IR, UV, MS) and experience in analytical/preparative separation procedures (normal phase and reverse-phase HPLC) are necessary. Good oral/written communication, planning and teamwork skills are expected.The desired candidate will have demonstrated technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent innovation. Expert knowledge of scientific principles, concepts and methods in medicinal chemistry are essential. A strong desire to apply state-of-the-art principles of drug design supported by molecular modeling and guided by biochemical, biological and pharmacological data is essential. Teaching experience and record of scientific publications will be helpful for later training/supervisory function of laboratory staff and to interact productively with the intra- and extra- mural science community.
