Staff Engineer, QA

This opening is located in Foster City, CA

Key Duties:

1). Work closely with R+D groups to resolve early supplier quality or production issues. Actively drive specification, test and qualification agreement between AB and supplier. Track and communicate cost savings activities due to reduced cycle time, elimination of destructive testing or reduction of labor. 2). Perform material specific process audits of critical suppliers to insure that manufacturing processes are accurate, controlled and documented. 3). Manage supply base to drive continual quality and cost improvement in supply base within assigned commodities. Insure that supply base meets AB metric goals. 4). Resolve supplier related quality issues and insure that the appropriate corrective actions are put into place in the supply base to prevent reoccurrence. 5). Participate as an active team member or leader of AB commodity, quality or process improvement teams. Provide unquestioned value to the team in helping them to achieve AB goals. 6). Perform supplier qualification process audits based on QSR or company audit procedure. Document results, follow up with supplier and implement corrective actions as appropriate.

Minimum Requirements:

1) Technical knowledge of manufacturing methods, processes and supply chain desirable. 2). Must have a BS degree in the area of chemistry, biology, biotechnology or an Engineering discipline. 3). 6+ years experience in QA, Engineering, Supplier Quality, bio-research or consumable manufacturing role. Previous experience as a SQE desirable but not necessary. 4). Excellent communication skills: Clear articulation of issues, report writing and ability to be concise. Must be able to interface comfortably with Sr. Management and be able to present concepts, ideas and facts with clarity to Sr. Management. 5). Drive: Must be a self-starter who can take general concepts and direction and produce desirable results. Also must function effectively and efficiently in a global, multi-site organization. 6). Process Mapping: Must have a demonstrated ability to map (flowchart) processes, analyze them and implement improvements. 7). Critical Thinking: Must be able to apply critical thinking skills to resolve issues where no precedent exists. Must be able to rationalize decisions while balancing revenue and quality needs. 8). Leadership: Successful leadership of cross-functional project, commodity or quality teams. Global, multi-site team leadership a plus 9).
