Staff Scientist

 



We are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to develop and progress concepts and experimental programs related to material optimizations and process optimizations across specific application areas.

Candidates should have the ability to independently research and apply learnings to define functional specifications for new automated tools for high throughput research, then work within a cross-functional team to develop, test, and validate such tools. Assignments will be across a range of industries that may include biopharmaceuticals, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, and refining, and will involve close interaction with mechanical and software engineers and scientists.

REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate has a strong analytical/theoretical background along with a strong demonstrated understanding of traditional engineering disciplines (such as heat and mass transfer, reaction kinetics and fluid mechanics) and working experience in at least one of the following key areas:

• Formulations of therapeutic agents (i.e. small molecule, protein, antibody)

• Research, development and optimization of fine chemical and bioprocesses

• Design, build, test and/or operation of small-scale (or microfluidic) reactors, ideally for petrochemical, refining, alternative energy/feedstock or bioreactor applications

• Development and implementation of rapid analytical techniques, and highly knowledgeable in traditional chromatographic (GC, LC, SFC, RP-HPLC, SEC-HPLC), spectroscopic ( UV-vis, MS, FTIR) and electrophoretic (gel, SDS-PAGE, CE) techniques and apparatus

• Development of novel separation processes in biological and/or chemical applications, including dialysis, ultrafiltration, chromatography, crystallization, distillation and membrane applications.  

• M.S. in Chemical, Biochemical or Biomolecular Engineering or related field is required, Ph.D. desired.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a group as well as individually in a fast-paced environment is essential.

• A diverse set of skills and talents is a plus.

• Hands-on experience with computational methods of CFD, FEM, statistical packages and/or process modeling (such as ASPEN) is a plus.
