Company Overview:

The Angiogenesis Foundation is a 501(c)(3) corporation, founded in 1994 and based in Cambridge, MA. Our organization is mission-driven with the goal of improving global health by advancing cutting-edge new treatments based on controlling angiogenesis (new blood vessel growth). Our funding sources include a portfolio of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, foundations and medical associations, as well as philanthropy. We operate with the same business principles and best practices as fast-paced corporations. We are seeking a polished and highly capable entrepreneurial professional, with prior business development and/or sales or strategic marketing experience in the healthcare/life sciences/biotech or pharmaceutical sector, to join our team.

Primary Responsibility:
Obtain educational grant and/or sponsorship funding -- primarily from pharmaceutical/biotechnology companies. Execute on all elements of the business development process including; lead identification, lead prioritization, due diligence research, cold-calling, understanding and delivering the value proposition through teleconferences and/or in-person presentations, identifying each potential funder’s needs and matching that with our organizations mission and strategy, closing the deal, and relationship stewardship.

Business Development Responsibilities:

•  Identification of potential opportunities and funding leads – understanding the dynamics in the field, competitive landscape, and emerging scientific and clinical developments.
•  Conducting an initial due diligence, leads prioritization, and relevance screen including research and background information on each company, brand, messaging, therapeutic category, competitive information, etc.
•  Establishing and developing contacts – leveraging existing relationships and expanding into new opportunities through networking and cold calling.
•  Present to potential funders a general introduction about the Foundation and our educational programs from a business-to-business value proposition – typically through a teleconference (primary method) and/or in-person meeting.
•  Follow up and maintain contact throughout the entire relationship development process.
•  Determine the funding opportunity with each lead by conducting additional due diligence through teleconference discussions, research, and internal discussions to set appropriate next steps and agendas, and understand the needs, concerns, and issues from our and the funder’s perspectives to make the best possible business decisions.
•  Proposal/Grant writing – Write and version proposals and grant requests suitable for senior-level executives.
•  Close the deal through final negotiations; conduct the necessary follow up and documentation, including collection of the funds.
•  Relationship management – oversee the execution and implementation of programs within the scope of funding relationships, ensure adherence to the budget.
•  Consistently communicate with, and be accountable to, funders and executive management to ensure all aspects of the program are executed with the highest degree of professionalism.
•  Continue to deepen existing relationships to create new funding opportunities and expand our network of contacts.
•  Financials – Develop budgets and proformas and continuously

Additional Responsibilities:

•  Maintain current knowledge of ACCME, FDA and PhRMA Guidelines.
•  Provide continuous market analysis on all key competitors; their services; acquisitions and pricing and have a clear understanding of the market place and gaps that exist.
•  Interact with other staff members to provide input regarding the resource needs, development of a marketing strategy, financial projections, and sharing of knowledge.
•  Expand and maintain the leads database for the organization.
•  Brainstorm with team members for innovative concepts.
•  Maintain knowledge of CME evolving standards and disciplines and has a deep understanding of the individual pharmaceutical procedures by company.

Skills & Experience:

The ideal candidate must have:
•  Prior background and professional experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical sectors.
•  Solid experience working in a business development and/or sales environment or strategic marketing functions focused on client relationship development and management.
•  Exceptional team player skills in building business-to-business relationships -- not just products sales – including, determining and communicating value propositions, structuring deals, driving results, and meeting financial targets.
•  Practical strategic thinking
•  Strong problem solving skills.
•  Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)
•  Excellent organizational skills.
•  Ability to work independently while simultaneously taking direction from executive management.
•  Self-starter possessing the ability to handle multiple initiatives.
•  Enjoys a entrepreneurial environment where priorities change frequently
•  Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

•  Bachelor’s Degree (or higher).
•  Minimum five years business development and/or sales experience.
•  Strong relevant professional references
