Assistant Music Minister

The Church Without Walls, (TCWW), is committed to bringing men and women who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ into fellowship with Him and into responsible church membership through equipping believers, enriching persons, evangelizing people and edifying missions. We are a large, predominantly African American Christian church operating two worship locations in Houston, Texas.  The Church encompasses approximately 150,000 square feet of space, 80 acres of land and embraces 18,000 members (14,400 families) in addition to reaching national audiences through weekly television broadcast and internet streaming, actively supporting work on multiple mission fields both at home and abroad.

Assistant Minister of Worship and Arts

 

This position reports to the Minister of Worship and Arts, and is designed to assist in the day-to-day administration and execution of development, programming, and overall activity of the Ministry of Worship and Arts.  The ideal candidate will provide exceptional leadership, a working knowledge of contemporary and traditional church worship styles, as well as new and innovative worship trends. In addition, he/she must be literate in music theory, teaching choirs, choruses, and small groups harmonic parts. The candidate must be proficient in musical accompaniment i.e. piano and organ. Finally, the candidate must adhere to the advancing mission of the Church as set forth by the Pastor/Founder Dr. Ralph D. West.

 

Responsibilities: 

· Plan and lead creative worship services that foster a blending of contemporary and traditional modes of 
  worship

· Provide care and mentorship to members of the Worship & Arts ministry in the areas of spiritual growth
  and artistic excellence

· Foster and encourage artistic and spiritual gifts in the members of the varied congregations for the
  purpose of growing the Worship and Arts Ministry.


· Facilitate the spiritual growth of the congregations using worship styles and content that compliment pulpit
  topics 

· Exercise oversight for all assigned corporate worship activities including special events, conferences and
  youth and children services

· Develop and lead a strategy for corporate worship that utilizes a variety of art forms (i.e.  music, drama,
  and visual arts)


· Organize creative outreach opportunities beyond that of regular weekly services i.e. Christmas
  cantata/production, Easter production, and concerts. 

· Effectively administer a worship and arts ministry through a balance of planning, follow-through,
  delegation,  communication, and financial accountability


· Must be able to demonstrate excellent Christian character

 

Specific Duties: 

· Conduct effective weekly rehearsals for choir and worship leaders, with primary focus on our Eldridge
  campus location

· Work closely with staff Ministers in creating and maintaining a positive worship atmosphere

· Select and prepare, in conjunction with Minister of  Worship and Arts songs that are appropriate all
  worship experiences

· Work with the Music Staff to select and prepare songs that are appropriate for the worship experiences


· Attend all rehearsals, services, visitations and special events germane to duties and responsibilities.

· Report to all rehearsals, services, visitations and special events punctually to ensure readiness and the
  execution of job responsibilities

· Coordinate all music for Church funerals, weddings, and special ministry programs as assigned

· Stay abreast of current musical trends to enhance musical skills and abilities

 

Qualifications:

 

· Personal Relationship with Jesus Christ and a heart for ministry

· Deep appreciation and understanding of the word of God

· Minimum of five years experience serving as Minister of Music at a progressive fellowship(i.e. multiple
  choirs and worship services) (required)

· Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education.  Post graduate education desirable. 

· Strong visionary leadership with proven experience in building and maintaining and effective music 
department

· Excellent organization and management skills with the ability to delegate and multitask

· Solid human resource, budgetary and operational manager skills

· General knowledge of vocal pedagogy that promotes good vocal technique

· Comprehensive knowledge of all musical styles appropriate for church worship

· Strong people management skills, strong interpersonal skills and problem resolution skills. 

· Excellent administration skills. Strong computer skills to utilize systems and church databases.

· Excellent work and Christian character references.
