Position Description:

Position Summary:Discovery Communications Inc. seeks a bright, highly motivated individual to manage contract process flow in a high volume, fast-paced Business Affairs and Programming Legal department. Responsibilities:1. Format, draft, and negotiate basic programming agreements such as development, acquisition, commission licensing, and independent contractor agreements, location and participant release agreements, and amendments2. Liaise with network and outside production companies to finalize such agreements3. Assist Business Affairs and Programming Legal attorneys and executives by analyzing and summarizing comments on draft programming agreements from opposing representation4. Review title clearance opinions and searches submitted by production companies5. Generate Business Affairs and Programming Legal status log reports, which will include programming agreement and title review status6. Maintain reports, ensuring that negotiators populate log report fields properly and that the report accurately reflects the most up to date deal information7. Revise and update program tracking database8. Trouble shoot various programming business and legal issues, including drafting responses to claim letters, drafting delay notification letters, termination agreements, assisting with pre-publication review issues, and liaising with Rights & Clearances regarding high exposure rights clearancesRequirements: * Excellent writing and negotiating skills (including ability to interpret and analyze comments from opposing representation)* Excellent interpersonal skills, including clear and effective communication skills* Excellent organizational skills* Ability to work well under pressure* Ability to handle high volume of work, as well as recognize priorities and manage time effectively to meet deadlines* Ability to function on an independent basis, with moderate supervision* Working knowledge of television business and general entertainment industry, and/or paralegal experience helpful* Working knowledge of union and guild issues helpful* Minimum of 4 years relevant experience, preferably in the entertainment industry, or at a law firm or in-house legal department* Legal writing, contract analysis, and negotiation skills a must.* Computer skills extremely valuable (including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, knowledge/experience setting up databases, tables, knowledge of redlining software).* Bachelors? degree required.* Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
