Counsel - Networks and Channel Distribution

CITY: Englewood Cliffs STATE: New JerseyCOUNTRY: USAEssential Functions (Responsibilities):Work closely with senior executives and business & legal affairs for studios and media networks to assist in the strategic planning, managing and negotiating the distribution of linear programming services and on-demand television programming to traditional and new media outlets and assist with start up and distribution of new channels for distribution on wireless and other new media platforms. The Distribution Counsel will work with the business units of NBCU broadcast, cable and broadband and wireless networks to ensure, from a legal, transactional and compliance point of view, that their actions and decisions relating to content distribution are coordinated and do not impinge on one another. On a day-to-day basis, the position will be responsible for assisting in the drafting, negotiating and closing of distribution agreements involving all channel related services across the increasingly broad range of traditional and new media outlets and for assisting in the legal infrastructure requirements. In addition, the Distribution Counsel will ensure that all content is cleared for the appropriate media by coordinating with all relevant internal groups (studio, labor relations, music, production, affiliate relations, etc.). This position will also entail extensive coordination with intellectual property, technology, regulatory, legislative, litigation, and production and acquisition groups within the company as they intersect with new and emerging media.Qualifications/Requirements:Basic Qualifications: Law degree required Minimum 7 years of experience working for a new media and or distribution organization in a legal or business affairs capacity Minimum 5 years experience contract negotiations Eligibility Requirements:Interested candidates must submit a resume/CV through nbcunicareers.com to be considered (note job#: 811337). Liaison with content producing divisions to ensure adherence to strategic focus and compliance with terms. Liaison with operations division to ensure delivery and production issues addressed. Work closely with intellectual property, technology and legislative and regulatory groups to stay on top of trends and developments, especially as they relate to newer media such as DVRs, mobile devices, cellular, and internet protocol.
