 Media Sales Planner Job Description



 

INVISION Inc. is a highly successful software company that develops products for the media industry. Used at the world’s most successful cable and broadcast television networks, Deal Maker – our core product – manages upwards of $10 billion in advertising sales each year.

 

Now, we’re developing a new product that will be a cornerstone of our growth strategy, and are looking for a talented business analyst with sales planning experience to join our team.

 

 

Position Summary

 

This position is a unique opportunity to apply media sales knowledge to Invision’s software development activities.

 

Cultivate a vision for how the Sales Planning process can be improved by a better software tool. Use your creativity to design new functions, while leveraging your Sales Planning experience to test the merit of all ideas.

 

Conduct detailed analysis to design exactly how our software should operate. Do so by leading brainstorming sessions, imagining creative solutions, and working collaboratively with our technical team.

 

Document plans and specifications to effectively communicate complex ideas to a diverse audience, be it technical software development staff or our sales and marketing teams.

 

Work with quality assurance to plan our approach to testing and review product results. Be a leader in designing improvements and driving issue resolution across the entire team.

 

Define the product implementation methodology, write training materials, and work on-site directly with the customer to implement the new tool.

 

Be a positive force for this product’s development and its application as a cutting edge innovation in our industry.

 

 

Skill Profile

 

At least 4 years experience planning, negotiating, or buying media for a broadcast/cable network or advertising agency.

 

Must possess in-depth knowledge of sales planning including product, pricing mechanisms, demographics, inventory management, the generation of proposals/presentations, and relationship management. Exposure to digital media is a big plus.

 

We expect you to have strong views of how to maximize the use of advertising inventory, meet customer goals, and improve the overall sales planning process.

 

 

Analysis and Communications

 

You need to have experience conducting business analysis – either through the design of process improvements, participation in software development efforts, or work as a super user.  This must include work communicating business requirements to technical staff. Time spent with technical writing or training is helpful too.

 

This role requires top-notch communication skills including the ability to develop rich written materials. Your writing style should be highly creative and able to make complex ideas accessible. Your verbal communications should be comfortable and polished in front of any audience.

 

This role requires someone who is a sharp thinker who can sort through the noise to make smart tradeoffs and add value to our products via creative ideas. You should be extremely analytical, detail oriented, and savvy with media math, combined with the creativity, vision, and communications of a top-notch business analyst.

 

 

Other Skills

 

It’s non-negotiable that you work well with a team. To us that means being outspoken and courageous with your views, while amenable to the natural compromise of working with others. We expect you’re comfortable collaborating with anyone in the company be it Sales, QA, etc.

 

We’re looking for a natural leader who can stand up for business requirements, represent the voice of the customer, and drive issue resolution.

 

High computer productivity using Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, etc. to perform numerical analysis and communicate ideas should be standard for you.

 

You need to be willing to work within a fast-paced and dynamic product development environment that is focused on delivering quality software.
