CITY: New York STATE: New YorkCOUNTRY: USAEssential Functions (Responsibilities):The National News Editor is responsible for leading the online news direction of NBC Local Integrated Media and ensuring its offering is highly differentiated, impactful and relevant to a new generation of users. The role combines strategic thinking with dynamic, day-to-day execution, editorial and project-management responsibilities across a broad organization; it will require working within a centralized national bureau that drives the strategy for a broad network of partners and markets. Plays a direct role in driving the operational vision for NBC Local's online strategy, including the definition of workflows, editorial styleguides, standards and benchmarks for the volume and frequency of news content publication. Works with NBC LIM Senior Director of Online Content, digital teams across NBC's local network and select third-party providers to facilitate the acquisition, editing, distribution and promotion of national news content across these local websites. This content spans multiple News categories, including Politics, Weather, Traffic, Financial News, and other content that is both national and locally relevant.Manages a team of one News Editor, one Copy Editor and three weekend and after-hours Hubbers who will be responsible for editing and publishing news content across NBC's local network.Develops and maintains a strong working connection with digital and content teams at the local stations, to ensure communication, coordination and accountability.Assists and provides input to hiring of local editors, bloggers and other content creators across extended organization.Qualifications/Requirements:Basic Qualifications:Minimum 4 years experience working in online news editing and content development.Undergraduate degree in journalism, media, communications or English required.Eligibility Requirements: Interested candidates must submit a resume/CV through nbcunicareers.com (Note Job # 805645) Willingness to travel and work overtime and on weekends with short notice when circumstances warrant Must have a valid driver's license Must be willing to take drug test and submit to a background investigation Must be 18 years or older Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United StatesDesired:Experience with traditional-media news-gathering and content operations, particularly in regard to video.A highly entrepreneurial approach and work ethic, with a track record of success in innovating and building new businesses and content and operational strategies.Experience in managing editorial teams and workflows, as well as experience working within a broad and highly matrixed organization with multiple business groups.Strong knowledge of emerging tools and platforms for content distribution.A solid base of contacts throughout industry, with proven ability to identify and recruit talent - e.g. editors, writers and bloggers.A sharp business sense and the ability to provide detailed inputs to content-acquisition processes.Attention to detail and ability to parse statistical research and analysis and make operational and editorial adjustments accordingly.A current expertise in new content-delivery platforms and technologies.Working knowledge of digital media technology, particularly content-management tools.Outstanding interpersonal and communications (oral and written) skills. Ability to work in a matrixed organization with multiple business groups.Ability to gather direction, requirements and feedback from diverse sources, including senior executives, and consolidate them into clear, operational plans.Ability to perform in fast-paced environments, to shift priorities quickly among multiple projects and to do what is necessary to "get it done" on short notice.Working experience in a television newsroom, and within a large media company.Demonstrated ability to create original online content that generates traffic and sales opportunities.General:NBC Universal is building a team to manage and expand its TV Station digital presence. The Local Integrated Media (LIM) team will be responsible for building the strategy and operations around managing and growing premium online properties, and mobile content and multicast distribution.LIM Properties currently includes web sites with a combined U.S. reach of over 7 million unique users and is expected to increase its online presence in the next 12 months.
